Radiesse

Immediate volume. Long-term collagen. Structure that lasts.

Our Philosophy

Two Mechanisms.
One Result.

Radiesse is fundamentally different from hyaluronic acid fillers. Its active ingredient is calcium hydroxylapatite — the same mineral found in bone — suspended in a gel carrier. This dual mechanism delivers immediate volumizing correction while simultaneously stimulating the body's own collagen production. The gel absorbs over time, leaving behind a collagen matrix that maintains the result.

At Edition, Dr. Schwartz uses Radiesse selectively — in areas where its firmness and collagen-stimulating properties offer advantages over hyaluronic acid. It is particularly effective for structural correction of the jawline, chin, and cheeks, and for hand rejuvenation. It is not appropriate for the lips or areas requiring very fine, superficial placement.

Understanding which filler belongs where is the difference between a result that looks natural and one that does not.

Collagen stimulation

Unlike hyaluronic acid fillers, Radiesse stimulates your own collagen production. As the gel carrier absorbs over 12 to 18 months, a natural collagen matrix remains — providing continued structural support.

Not reversible

Radiesse cannot be dissolved with hyaluronidase. Results are long-lasting and will gradually absorb naturally, but cannot be immediately reversed. Patient selection and precise technique are essential.

The Product

Radiesse by Merz

Radiesse is manufactured by Merz Aesthetics and is FDA-approved for correction of moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, facial fat loss (lipoatrophy), and hand augmentation. It is available in a standard formulation and a diluted formulation (Radiesse+) that includes lidocaine for improved comfort.

Its firm consistency makes it ideal for structural correction in areas that require lift and support — and less suitable for areas requiring softness and flexibility such as the lips.

Treatment Areas

Where Radiesse
Performs Best

Radiesse's firmness and collagen-stimulating properties make it the preferred choice for structural areas of the face and for hand rejuvenation.

Midface

Cheek Augmentation

Radiesse provides firm, durable lift in the cheeks. Its structural support is particularly effective for patients with significant midface volume loss who need more than hyaluronic acid can provide.

Lower Face

Jawline Definition

The firm consistency of Radiesse makes it well suited for jawline contouring and definition. It provides structural support that softer fillers cannot match in this area.

Lower Face

Nasolabial Folds

FDA-approved for nasolabial fold correction, Radiesse softens deep folds with immediate volume and long-term collagen support. Results typically last 12 to 18 months in this area.

Lower Face

Marionette Lines

Deep marionette lines often require the structural support that Radiesse provides. Combined with jawline treatment, it can significantly improve the lower face appearance.

Hands

Hand Rejuvenation

FDA-approved for hand augmentation, Radiesse restores volume to the backs of the hands, reducing the prominence of tendons, veins, and bone. One of the most underutilized aesthetic treatments available.

Neck

Neck & Décolletage

Diluted Radiesse (hyperdilute) injected into the neck and chest stimulates collagen and improves skin quality and laxity — a non-surgical option for early to moderate neck aging.

Common Questions

What Patients Ask

Radiesse typically lasts 12 to 18 months, and in some areas up to 2 years. The collagen stimulation it triggers may provide continued benefit even after the product itself has absorbed. Duration varies by individual metabolism, treatment area, and the amount of product used.

No. Unlike hyaluronic acid fillers, Radiesse cannot be dissolved. It will absorb naturally over time, but cannot be immediately reversed. This makes patient selection and precise technique especially important. Dr. Schwartz will discuss whether Radiesse is appropriate for your anatomy and goals.

Radiesse+ contains lidocaine for improved comfort during injection. Topical anesthetic is applied beforehand. The treatment is generally well tolerated. Some areas, such as the hands, may require a nerve block for optimal comfort.

Radiesse is best suited for patients with moderate to significant volume loss in structural areas of the face, patients seeking longer duration than hyaluronic acid fillers provide, and patients interested in hand rejuvenation. It is not appropriate for lip augmentation or very fine, superficial lines.

Hyperdilute Radiesse involves diluting the product significantly and injecting it over a broad area to stimulate diffuse collagen production — improving skin quality, texture, and mild laxity rather than providing focal volume. It is commonly used for neck, chest, and body skin rejuvenation.
